If you’re doing community-based work in California right now, you’re carrying a lot.

Systems Change in Action will host insightful conversations about the topics California organizations are navigating most—policy shifts, member engagement, peer support, staff self-care, building and sustaining community trust, CalAIM, and measuring impact.

Each session breaks down complex ideas into plain language and gives you practical next steps you can use right away.

  • 3/25 @ 12:15 PST - Supporting Latino Communities in Times of Fear History, Healing, and Advocacy for Community Health Workers

    Who should attend:

CHW's, Promotoras/es, Case Managers, and frontline staff who work primarily with Latino individuals, families, and mixed-status households.

    About the webinar:

Latinos constitute roughly 39% of California’s population, influencing the state’s cultural, economic, and social landscape. Despite this significant presence, many Latino residents still face deep-rooted fears related to safety, belonging, and discrimination.

Join Loraine Brittingham-Rojas, RN, and co-host, Josie Smith as they walk through the many fears our Latino clients express about safety, belonging, and discrimination that did not appear overnight. They are rooted in decades of policy, misunderstanding, and resilience. As Community Health Workers, you play a powerful role in helping clients feel seen, supported, and safe. During this webinar, we’ll walk through where these fears come from, how they show up in our work, and what we can do to support and empower our community.

    What you'll learn:

    1. How has the history of immigration policy shaped the fear and discrimination that Latino communities experience today

    2. What are the most common fears and stressors that Latino clients express in today’s political climate?

    3. How can CHWs respond when a client expresses fear or avoids services because of their immigration status or discrimination experiences?

    4. What language and advocacy tools can CHWs use to help clients stay informed and empowered?

  • 4/8 @ 12:15 PST - Regularly Advocating for the Transgender Community Help Members Feel Heard, Seen, and Safe

    Who should attend:

Any individual working with LGBTQIA+ clients.

    About this Webinar:

Advocacy doesn’t always mean speaking at a rally. For CHWs, advocacy happens in everyday moments—how we speak, how we show up, and how we create trust. In this session, we’ll explore simple, trauma-informed ways to support trans individuals during a time when many feel targeted or misunderstood.

    What you'll learn:

    1. What does “everyday advocacy” look like for CHWs when supporting transgender clients?

    2. How can I respond when a client shares fear, discrimination, or safety concerns related to their gender identity?

    3. What language, pronouns, and terms should I use to create a supportive and affirming environment?

    4. How can I interrupt harm safely and professionally when trans clients are being mistreated—in front of me or within my organization?

    5. What local and national resources can I connect clients to for gender-affirming care, legal support, crisis help, and community connection?

  • 4/15 @ 12:15 PST - Stay Grounded Under Pressure: Explore the Window of Tolerance for CBO Staff

    Who should attend?

Case managers, supervisors, leadership, and anyone working within a community-based organization (CBO) who support vulnerable community members while navigating complex emotional, organizational, and workload pressures.

    About this webinar:

Trauma-informed care isn’t just something we offer to clients—it begins with how we care for ourselves. In community-based work, regulation happens in the small, everyday moments: how we breathe before responding, how we notice our own reactions, and how we stay present when someone else is overwhelmed.

In this session, join Founder and CEO, Katie Mayeda, LCSW, with Co-host Melissa Virostko, LCSW, where they’ll explore simple, body-based practices that help us remain grounded—even when the work pulls us toward our limits. Just like lifting weights, the work can make us stronger when we’re in alignment—but when we’re out of alignment, it can cause injury, not growth.

    Here's what you'll learn:

    1. Why is it essential to understand our own trauma triggers in helping professions?

    2. What is the Window of Tolerance?

    3. Which EMDR and sensorimotor exercises help staff stay regulated?

  • 4/22 @ 12:15 PST - Measuring What Matters for CALAIM: Using Data Storytelling to Highlight Member Experiences and Programmatic Impact

CALAIM is asking providers to demonstrate real impact, but many teams may feel unsure about what to measure or how to tell their story accurately and effectively. This training will help you turn the work you’re already doing into clear, meaningful data and member stories that health plans and the communities served will understand, value, and remember.
